Crypto-Backed Loans

A crypto-backed loan is cash borrowed against digital assets you already hold. You transfer the assets to a custody wallet as collateral, receive US dollars, pay interest monthly and get the assets back when the principal is repaid. The position stays yours throughout; the lender's protection is the collateral, not your credit history.

Arvexo lends from $5,000 against five assets, at published loan-to-value (LTV) ceilings, with collateral held in segregated custody and never reused. The numbers on this page are the ones the loan agreement is built from.

How a crypto-backed loan works at Arvexo

  1. Choose the amount, term and LTV. The calculator shows the collateral needed, the monthly interest and the price at which a margin call would arrive.
  2. Sign up and verify your identity. Every borrower is verified before funding; Why do I need to verify my identity? explains what is checked.
  3. Transfer collateral. A custody address is created for your loan. The LTV is set from the price at confirmation.
  4. Receive the funds. US dollars are sent once the deposit is confirmed; How and when are loan funds disbursed? covers timing and methods.
  5. Pay interest monthly, repay the principal at maturity. Collateral is released once everything is settled in full, typically within one business day.

The step-by-step guide is in How Crypto-Backed Loans Work.

A worked example

1 BTC at a hypothetical $100,000, borrowed at 50% LTV:

  • Loan: $50,000. Cash received after the 1% fee: $49,500. You owe $50,000.
  • Interest: about $513.70 for a 30-day month; $6,250 for a year.
  • Margin call if Bitcoin falls to $62,500 (a 37.5% fall). Liquidation at $58,824 (41.2%).

At the 70% maximum the loan is $70,000, cash $69,300, and the margin call arrives after a 12.5% fall. The maximum is a ceiling, not a recommendation. How much can you borrow against 1 BTC, 10 ETH or 100 SOL? runs the same arithmetic for three holdings; How far can crypto prices fall before a margin call? has the full table for all five assets.

What loan-to-value means

LTV is the loan balance divided by the current value of the collateral. It rises when the price falls, and when unpaid interest is added to the balance. Three levels matter: the starting LTV you choose, the margin-call threshold at which Arvexo asks you to add collateral or repay principal within a stated window, and the liquidation threshold at which collateral may be sold. A warning alert precedes the margin call. What is loan-to-value and why does it matter? and Margin calls and liquidation cover the mechanics; Which LTV thresholds trigger notifications? lists the alert levels.

Where your collateral sits

Collateral is held with Ledger and Cobo Custody in a wallet created for your loan. It is not lent out, pledged or used by Arvexo while the loan is open, and you can watch the address on the chain. A lender that reuses collateral can offer a lower rate because it earns on your assets; the trade is that your collateral may not be there when you repay. Security describes the custody arrangement; What is rehypothecation? explains why the clause matters more than the rate.

The risks, stated plainly

  • Price risk. If the collateral falls far enough, some or all of it may be sold to restore or settle the loan. The sale can happen at a low price and, in most jurisdictions, is a taxable disposal.
  • Interest risk. Unpaid interest is added to the balance and raises LTV without any price move.
  • Timing risk. A top-up counts when it is confirmed on the chain, not when it is sent. Prices can move in between.
  • Term risk. The principal is due at maturity. Extension or refinancing is a request, not a right; ask at least 10 business days before the date.

Borrow at an LTV at which you could fund a margin call from money you already have. For most holders that is 30% to 50%.

Who can apply

Individuals who pass identity verification and companies, funds and institutions through a separate onboarding route. Some countries, US states and Canadian provinces are excluded; Is Arvexo available in my country? has the list.

Frequently asked questions

What is a crypto-backed loan?
A loan secured by digital assets. You pledge Bitcoin, Ether or another accepted asset as collateral, receive cash, pay interest, and get the collateral back when the principal is repaid. The collateral can be sold if its value falls below the agreed level.
How do crypto loans work?
Collateral value multiplied by the LTV you choose sets the loan amount. Interest is billed monthly; the principal is due at maturity. If the price falls and LTV reaches the margin-call threshold, you add collateral or repay principal; at the liquidation threshold, collateral may be sold.
Can I get a loan using crypto as collateral without a credit check?
Arvexo's lending decision is based on the collateral, and every borrower completes identity verification.
How much can I borrow against my crypto?
Up to the asset's maximum LTV: 70% for Bitcoin, 65% for Ether, 60% for Solana, 55% for BNB and HYPE, from a $5,000 minimum. 1 BTC at $100,000 supports up to $70,000.
Are crypto-backed loans safe?
The loan is as safe as three things: the custody arrangement (segregated, not reused), the starting LTV you choose, and your ability to respond to a margin call. Arvexo publishes all three thresholds per asset and holds collateral with named custodians. The price risk is yours.
Is a crypto-backed loan taxable?
Receiving the loan is generally not taxed. Posting collateral depends on the agreement and your jurisdiction. A liquidation, or selling assets to repay, is a sale. Is a crypto-backed loan a taxable event? covers US and UK rules; speak to an adviser.
How fast is a crypto loan funded?
After verification, approval and on-chain confirmation of the collateral; the payout method sets the last step.
